Eye of the Storm

I’m aware that I’ve been slower than normal at getting posts up this July.

This is partially because of a two-week road trip I took, but I can’t blame that really (I wrote the Van Gogh post from the beach).  Blogging is as much playtime for me as any vacation activity I can think of.  Which is good, because blog posts tumble out of me without regard to what I’m currently doing.  My husband has gotten used to me turning the lamp back on at night and scrawling in my fat yellow Mead notebook.  I keep paper with me at all times, because if I don’t catch an idea by the tail while it’s in my head, it’s gone forever.  But no worries, it’ll be quickly replaced – I can’t seem to read any book on any topic or visit any place of business anymore without blog post ideas swarming up at me.

The reason I’ve been slower than normal at posting is simply because I’m in the eye of a storm.  I may or may not be moving in the near future, but regardless, some things are going to be different.  I’ve worked hard at finding a happy place in my photography business and on getting this blog up and running, and the winds are about to change.  Intentional change, change that I’m excited about, but that requires a lot of attention and thought right now.  I have to put all sorts of things in motion to make both better than they are, and these days I alternate between working frantically to batten down the hatches and just staring at the oncoming storm, mesmerised by the beauty, mystery, and power of it all.

In fact, as I sit and type this, there is both sun and thunder outside my window, which is pretty much how life feels these days.

Anyway, I like posting twice a week, but lately it’s only been once, and I’m trying not to get on my own case too much about that.  I hope you’ll stick with me as I get some things in order, because things will pick up again.  In a big way.  A lot of you have told me that you’re in the same place right now – contemplating and enacting change – and I can’t wait to see what the coming months bring us.

In the meantime, I could use your ideas about something.  I was feeling pretty happy about De-Lurk Day, when I saw this video:

Why the heck didn’t I have everyone send in a photo or something that I could have put into a sweet little P4P reader montage?

A blog is much more than the person who writes it – it’s shaped and nourished by the people who read it.  This blog is as much about you as it is about me.

I’m thinking I should ask everyone to send in a photo of themselves in the most beautiful landscape they can find within 15 mins of their house.  So I can make a big happy 2012 P4P reader visual feast out of it.  But I want some special sauce added to it, like everyone is throwing their arms up in the air or something.  Some kind of consistency across images to make it more unified than just a self portrait project.

We need a photo version of a secret handshake, here.  Any thoughts?  Let me know!!

Wishing you a productive, positive-change-filled weekend,

Jenika

I love this idea. I’m in, whatever the gesture. I don’t have any ideas of what to do with my hands… but I’m in.

Each picture should be a picture of themselves, taking a picture: Photog…doing what they do best. :O)

Haha, good idea – although then their faces would be covered by a camera!!

Ill be honest, as a photographer, Im rarely in front of the camera, and since I work full time and have a husband (who is amazing) and 3 kids, I rarely have time to do any new ones – b/c you know, that requires a big effort… So maybe you should start with everyone just sending in a pic of themselves, and then go into the assignments b/c thats going to be alot harder to get accomplished (especially since its raining non stop here for the last few days)

Good luck with all your changes, and big hugs!

So good idea! Maybe everyone should hold in hands papers with name?

Right hand placed on the heart, the biggest smile you can muster.

We could “photoshop” ourselves into a current favorite photo we took. Ha! No, I don’t know.

We could make a square with our fingers and hands! Ya know like looking through the viewfinder sort of? Haha, I’m not sure if that makes sense. It seems fitting for photographers though 🙂
